Areas of Interest

Nonlinear dynamic analysis, seismic analysis, performance, and rehabilitation of structures, structural design and smart materials, construction management, methods, and materials, natural hazard prediction and reduction, pedagogical issues in engineering and engineering technology education and distance course development.

Biography:

Dr. A. Mehrabian is recognized for his contributions to the field of structural and construction engineering. He is the author of papers published in American, European and International journals and conference proceedings. He is also a well-respected teacher and has construction-related industrial and government experience both as engineer and consultant. Dr. Mehrabian joined the faculty of the College of Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Central Florida in Orlando in August 2005. He earned his Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Arizona in August 2002, and attended California State University in San Jose from 1990 to 1996 where he received his BS and MS degrees in civil engineering. Dr. Mehrabian also holds a degree in architecture. He was also one of the original creators of a $450,000 National Science Foundation funded project called Program ACCESS. His research interests are extensive and broad including performance of structures under extreme loading conditions, natural hazards evaluation and reduction, safety evaluation of infrastructure, and other construction related topics. His teaching interests include pedagogical issues in engineering education and distance learning.
