Coowar was born on the island of Mauritius in 1948.She received
a Diploma in Telecommunications and Electronics from the U.K.,
a M.S.E.E from the University of Massachusetts and a Ph.D. in
Industrial Engineering from the University of Central Florida.
She worked as a Process Engineer for Litronix from 1973 to 1976
and as a Production Control Manager for ITAC from 1976 to 1979.
Both were American companies operating in Mauritius, specializing
in the fabrication of electronic watches and calculators. From
1979 to 1982, she was a professor at the National Institute of
Electricity and Electronics and at the National Institute of Petroleum
in Algeria. She joined the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth
in 1982 as a faculty in the department of Electrical Engineering
and Technology. She was hired in the department of Engineering
Technology at the University of Central Florida in 1992. She has
held positions of program coordinator for the BSEET program and
assistant chair to the department. She is currently an associate
professor. She has published and presented several papers on electrical
engineering applications, engineering education and process improvement.
She is a member of the American Society for Engineering Education
(ASEE), senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers (IEEE), senior member of the American Society for Quality
and a member of the Tau Alpha Pi.
She is an IEEE representative on the Technology Accreditation
Commission of ABET, Inc., an international accreditor for TAC
of ABET and a certified Six Sigma Blackbelt.
